Currington Family

During my years of service to Gardendale and its citizens, we have made significant strides together:

We have grown and strengthened our Police and Fire Departments

  • Public Safety personnel among the top in compensation in all of Jefferson County
  • Police – $2.57M Total in Capital Investments and Improvements – $1.98M investment in our Public Safety Center, $593K investment in requested gear and equipment, Fleet program for Patrol vehicles
  • Fire – $6.57M Total in Capital Investments and Improvements – $3.03M investments in Engine, Ladder and Rescue Trucks, $2.88M investments in our three Stations, $660K investments in requested life saving / sustaining equipment

We have made kids and education a priority and contributed several million dollars over the years to our local public schools

Sustainability of a town is dependent on several key factors, one of which is the ability to attract young families on a consistent basis. Good schools are one of the factors that attracts young families. It is in a towns best interest to do all they can to help their schools be the best that they can be. We decided years ago this was a crucial part of the longevity of Gardendale. Today we strive to do all that we can to improve our children’s experiences and opportunities in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. We continually evaluate the process and reform it when appropriate. Our kids deserve our best effort to help make our local public schools the best in Jefferson County.

We have built a state of the art park, Bill Noble Park, that impacts hundreds of families on a daily basis.

At Bill Noble Park, we strive to provide our community with a safe and modern place for sports and other events. Athletes and their guests come from all over the region to compete in Gardendale, Alabama. At Bill Noble Park, we are the perfect place for kids to enjoy the outdoors.

However, we’re more than just sports! We host multiple community events throughout the year. We host craft nights and summer day camps for children. We host community meetings, parties, etc, at the Event Center. We offer a state of the art playground area as well as over a mile of walking paths and/or sidewalks to enjoy.

We have made improvements each year to our infrastructure through paving and striping projects throughout the City

Maintaining our roadways, storm water systems and our sidewalks is important to the citizens and our visitors. We work closely with our Public Works Department every year to identify where the greatest needs are throughout the City. We resurface and/or stripe those areas using dedicated gas tax revenues. We also partner with Jefferson County Roads and Transportation to maintain the roadways identified as “through roads” in our town.

We have established Gardendale as the "Medical Mile" of North Jefferson County, benefiting both residents and attracting economic growth

    • Strategic Planning: The City of Gardendale has a strategic plan that specifically promotes the “Medical Mile” to attract new medical businesses and increase daytime traffic.
    • Concentration of Medical Facilities: There are over one hundred medically related businesses in Gardendale, attracting more healthcare businesses to the area.
    • UAB Medicine Presence: UAB Medicine has a significant presence in Gardendale, including a state-of-the-art medical complex offering comprehensive primary and specialty care services, a freestanding emergency department, and a UAB Callahan Eye Hospital Clinic.
    • Addressing Underserved Areas: UAB Medicine’s investment in Gardendale aims to bring vital primary and specialty care to underserved residents of North Jefferson County.
    • Only Emergency Medical Facility: The UAB Medicine facility is part of the only emergency medical facility between Cullman and downtown Birmingham, making it a crucial resource for the region.
In essence, Gardendale is actively working to establish itself as a central location for medical services in North Jefferson County

All this and more while keeping the city finances sound

  • 17 years of “unqualified” audits. That is the industry terminology that means everything is good.
  • AA- S&P Credit Rating

We’ve added so many new businesses during this time even with stiff competition from surrounding cities. We have brought in names like:

  • Publix, TJ Maxx, Tractor Supply, UAB Freestanding Emergency Room, Olive Garden, Shrimp Basket, Longhorn Steakhouse, Chipotle, Ulta, Dunkin, Jersey Mikes, Chicken Salad Chick, Tazikis, Taco Mama, Sonic, Santos Coffee, Starbucks, Wood’s Trading Company, Ace of the South, Springhill Suites, Dewey Barber Chevrolet, D-Bat’s, Panera Bread, Buffalo Wild Wings, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Yogurt Mountain, Pet Supermarket and 24e

All the while we have worked equally as hard to continue to support our existing businesses. We love and appreciate each of them and what they mean to our City and citizens.

  • Chick-fil-A, Mordecia’s, Jim N Nick’s Bar-B-Q, Our Place, Jeff Dennis Jewelers, Pasquales, Milo’s, Kumo’s, Cracker Barrel, Hamburger Heaven, The Cigar Shop, Foodland, Mings, Crossfit, Dollar General, Hobby Lobby, and many more to numerous to list.

In the next term my goals will be to:

  • Grow our sales tax revenues by continuing to attract businesses that provide our citizens and surrounding communities new additional shopping and dining options
  • Continue supporting our Police and Fire Departments to keep our citizens, businesses and visitors safe.
  • Increase Fire Medics at Fire Stations 2 & 3 from 6 to 9 per station
  • Attract family oriented entertainment options to our town. This is a huge trade gap that we need to close and our kids and families need these entertainment options
  • Continue making improvements to our public streets, side walks and other public infrastructure
  • Work to position our town to realize the maximum benefits from the Northern Beltline
  • Support the light industrial park in the North Gardendale area and the opportunities it will bring in the form of new, high paying careers
  • Continue to support a variety of high quality residential development and seek out additional high quality senior care / living providers
  • Continue investing in kids and education

I have spent my professional career managing problems, defining solutions to those problems and working hand-in-hand with people to implement those solutions. I am a “people person”. I believe my professional background and experience gained during my time of service as your councilman, along with strong moral values and a healthy dose of common sense, makes me a councilman that you can continue to trust and depend upon.

I have worked hard during the last 17 years to earn your trust, make decisions based upon experience, and maintain fiscally responsible principles; all the while striving to do what I believe to be right, just and fair for you the citizens and our town.

With your vote on Tuesday, August 26th, I will continue to work hard as a part of the team to further enhance Gardendale and sustain it as a premiere town in which to live, work and play. I will continue to have an open door policy. I will remain accessible and as responsive as possible to the citizens of this District and Gardendale.

It is because of these beliefs and qualities that I remain confident in my abilities to serve as your representative. I ask not only for your support during this campaign, but for your vote of trust and confidence on Tuesday, August 26th to serve as your Councilman and help continue guiding Gardendale into a promising, prosperous future.

Thank You and God Bless!
